Request types#

A request is a forecast type and a place, a few words in any order, upper or lower case, except that airport codes like PADQ must be capitals. For example:

  • ecmwf wind uganikbay: the ECMWF model’s wind forecast for the named location Uganik Bay.
  • marinezone pkz738: the NOAA marine forecast for Shelikof Strait.
  • taf PADQ: the Kodiak airport TAF.
  • uganikbay: a text with a place but no forecast type gets the NOAA point forecast there.

Features are added on demand. If there’s a forecast, data source or location format you’d like SMSWeather to handle, email me and I’ll see about adding it.

For more varied weather data, such as high-altitude winds, freezing levels and avalanche forecasts, try Going Blue. It also works over satellite messengers, but needs its phone app to read the forecasts.

SMSWeather may become unavailable at any time, and comes with no warranty or guarantee of accuracy. Always check official sources before relying on a forecast.
